As incredible as it sounds, it was known in history that men and women only took baths twice a year (May and October). Women kept their hair covered, while men shaved their heads (because of lice and bugs) and wore wigs. Wealthy men could afford good wigs made from wool. They couldn’t wash the wigs, so to clean them they would carve out a loaf of bread, put the wig in the shell, and bake it for 30 minutes. The heat would make the wig big and fluffy, hence the term ‘big wig.’ Today we often use the term ‘here comes the Big Wig’ because someone appears to be or is powerful and wealthy.

“Green Bomber” Sea Worms Fire Glowing Blobs
This creature is one of at least five new “green bombers”—deep-sea, swimming worm species armed with “bombs” (indicated by arrow) that glow a brilliant green when dropped.
The glowing bombs are thought to distract predators such as fish, allowing the worms to escape.

‘Miracle cat’ Brownie on mend after arrow pierces his head
An orange tabby named Brownie was shot in the head with an arrow and amazingly survived.
The 13-inch arrow only pierced the kitty’s muscle, avoiding his skull and eyes - and a vet in rural Indiana was able to remove it.
“He’s just a miracle cat,” said Sarah Hayes, chief executive of the Monroe County Humane Association.
“He was just purring and rubbing up against people, even with the arrow in his head,” Hayes said.
